(Note: No +'s and -'s appear on IHCC's final grade records.)

The grading for the semester is based on 100 X's (100 points or 100%) being equal to an A+.

The X's you can earn are divided approximately as follows:

·         45 X's (or points): weekly homework papers

·         35 X's (or more) for attendance and/or extra credit

·         20 X's: final paper

·         Participation, attitude, attention, hard work--can slightly lower or raise final letter grade

The points you can earn on the graded paper are as follows (a min. of "C-" is required to pass the course):

A- to A+: 18-20 X's               D- to D+: 7-9 X's
               B- to B+: 14-16 X's                F- to F+: 4-6 X's
               C- to C+ 10-12 X's                FF (no ppr.): 0 X's

By the end of the term, your total X's will determine your grade as follows.  You earn X's by completing the work.  In attendance, an "X" (or a "V") is about 70 min. of work.  The same is true for extra credit - about 70 min. of work per X.  In weekly homework, most assignments are worth 1 X each, with a few being equal to 2 X's.

100 (or more) X's = A+
90-99 X's = A
80-89 X's = B
70-79 X's = C
60-69 X's = D
  0-59 X's = F

For more details on this, please go to the “Grading” page of the web site.

WEEKS 1-8 TOTALS
: At the end of Week 8, we are about halfway through the semester.  If you want to add up your X’s totals from the two sets of records, you can get an idea of what grade you are getting.  By the end of Wk. 8, if you have a perfect “A,” you’d have 40 X’s.  If you’re running a week late, then adjust for that fact by adding the X’s you plan to finish for Wk. 8.  Please also note that I haven’t yet added the X’s in “Attendance” for the Wk. 8 D2L discussion boards, so be sure to add those in if you plan to do them, and also your extra credit (1 “X” for every 70 min.):

 37-40 X’s/points = A
 33-36 = B
 29-32 = C
25-28 = D (You’ll need to start working much harder to eventually earn a “C” or higher.)
 21-24 = F  (You’re in very bad shape.  Start working a LOT harder, or take a “W.”)
17-20 = F- (You may not be able to catch up.  You may want to take a “W” before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
0-16 = FF (You’re so far behind you most likely can’t catch up.  Take a “W” before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)

---
WEEKS 1-10 TOTALS: At the end of Week 10, assignments and attendance will have counted for roughly half of all the X’s.  Add up your X’s from both the attendance and the weekly papers records and see where you stand.  (If you have not yet finished Wk. 10 discussion boards and weekly paper and plan to do those no more than one week late, be sure to also add those into your total.  In addition, remember to add any extra credit: 1 “X” for every 70 min.):

 50+ X’s
/points = A+
 45-49 = A
 40-44 = B
 35-39 = C
30-34 = D (You’ll need to start working much harder to eventually earn a “C” or higher.)
 25-29 = F  (You’re in very bad shape.  Start working a LOT harder, or take a “W.”)
20-24 = F- (You probably can’t catch up.  You probably should take a “W” before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
0-19 = FF (You’re so far behind you can’t catch up.  Take a “W” before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
