Total for all
weeks = about 36 attendance points. 1 "X" or "V" = 1 point. "/" = ½ point.
The grading for the semester is based on 100 X's (100 points or 100%) being equal to an A+. The X's you can earn are divided as follows:
· 45 X's (or points): weekly homework papers
· 35 X's (or more) for attendance and/or extra credit
· 20 X's: final paper (To pass the course, you must get a passing grade on the final paper.)
· Participation, attitude, attention, hard workcan slightly lower or raise final letter grade
You earn X's by completing the work. In attendance, an "X" (or a "V") is about 70 min. of work. The same is true for extra credit about 70 min. of work per X. In weekly homework, most assignments are worth 1 X each, with a few being equal to 2 X's. By the end of the term, your total X's will determine your grade as follows:
100 (or more) X's
= A+
9099 X's = A
8089 X's = B
7079 X's = C
6069 X's = D
059 X's = F
For more details
on this, please go to the "Grading"
page of the web site.

FIGURE YOUR GRADE ANYTIME:
(a) Add all of your X’s and 0’s in both “Attendance” and “Weekly Papers.” Write down the total.
(b) How many percent of this total are X’s? How many percent of this total are
0’s?
(c) Here are the percentages and rough estimates of your present grade:
90% X’s, 10% 0’s = You are getting about an A.
80% X’s, 20 % 0’s = You are getting about a B.
70% X’s, 30% 0’s = You are getting about a C.
60% X’s, 40% 0’s = You are getting about a D
50% X’s, 50% 0’s = You are getting a high F. You need to start working twice as many hours on the course per week.
40% X’s, 60% 0’s = You are getting an F. You need to start working 2½ times as many hours on the course per week.
30% X’s, 70% 0’s = You are getting an F. You need to start working three times as many hours on the course per week.
If you are in one of the last three categories—“F”—then you may want to take a Withdraw Passing by Monday of Wk. 14.
