The grading for the semester is based on 100 X's (100 points or 100%) being equal to an A+. The X's you can earn are divided as follows:
· 65 X's (or points): weekly homework papers (part of this is 9 pts. for final paper)
· 35 X's (or more) for attendance and/or extra credit
· Participation, attitude, attention, hard workcan slightly lower or raise final letter grade
You
earn X's by completing the work. In attendance, an "X" (or a "V")
is about 70 min. of work. The same is true for extra credit about 70
min. of work per X. In weekly homework, most assignments are worth 1 X
each, with a few being equal to 2 X's. By the end of the term, your
total X's will determine your grade as follows:
100 (or more) X's = A+
9099 X's = A
8089 X's = B
7079 X's = C
6069 X's = D
059 X's = F
For more details on this, please go to the “Grading” page of the web site.

Estimating Your Grade at Wk. 8: At the end of Week 8, we are about
halfway through the semester. Add up your X’s from BOTH of the two sets of
recordsattendance and weekly papers—to see where you stand. (If you have not
yet finished Wk. 8 discussion boards and weekly papers and plan to do those no
more than one week late, be sure to also add those into your total. In
addition, remember to add any extra credit you may have earned: 1 “X” for every
70 min.): Please also note that IF I haven’t yet added the X’s in “Attendance”
for the Wk. 8 D2L discussion boards, so be sure to add those in if you plan to
do them, and also your extra credit (1 “X” for every 70 min.):
3740 X’s/points
= A
3336 = B
2932 = C
2528 = D (You’ll need to start working much harder to eventually earn a
“C” or higher.)
2124 = F (You’re in very bad shape. Start working a LOT harder, or
take a “W.”)
1720 = F (You may not be able to catch up. You may want to take a “W”
before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
016 = FF (You’re so far behind you most likely can’t catch up. Take a
“W” before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)

Estimating Your Grade at Wk. 10: At the end of Week 10,
assignments and attendance will have counted for roughly half of all the X’s.
Add up your X’s from BOTH of the two sets of recordsattendance and weekly
papers—to see where you stand. (If you have not yet finished Wk. 10 discussion
boards and weekly papers and plan to do those no more than one week late, be
sure to also add those into your total. In addition, remember to add any extra
credit you may have earned: 1 “X” for every 70 min.):
50+
X’s/points = A+
4549 = A
4044 = B
3539 = C
3034 = D (You’ll need to start working much harder to eventually earn a
“C” or higher.)
2529 = F (You’re in very bad shape. Start working a LOT harder, or
take a “W.”)
2024 = F (You probably can’t catch up. You probably should take a “W”
before they stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
019 = FF (You’re so far behind you can’t catch up. Take a “W” before they
stop giving them on the last business day of Wk. 14.)
Estimating Your Grade Anytime: Here is another way to estimate your grade anytime. It requires a little bit more math than the above methods. If you want to figure out your current grade level or grade average in the course at any given time, use this formula:
·
Count your total X’s and 0’s. Count all X's and 0's in the
attendance records and papers records.
If you have extra credit, also add it to the total of X's: count it as one X
for every 70 min.
·
"F" average in the class anytime: You have about half X's and half 0's (or
worse).
(For example, if you have 10 X's and 10 0's, or 30 X's and 30 0's, that would be
an "F" average.
And if you have only 5 X's and 15 0's, you would have a very low "F.")
·
"D" average in the class: You have about two X's for every one 0.
(For example, if you have 20 X's and 10 0's, or 40 X's and 20 0's, that would be
a "D" average.)
·
“C” average in the class: You have about three times as many X’s as 0’s.
(For example, 30 X’s and 10 0’s, or 60 X’s and 20 0’s, would be about a "C"
average.)
·
“B” average in the class: You have at least four times as many X’s as 0’s.
(For example, 40 X’s and 10 0’s, or 60 X’s and 15 0’s, would be a "B" average.)
· "A" average would mean having at least 9 X's for every 0, or 9/10ths X's.
