CAN YOU RAISE YOUR GRADE?  Yes.  You may raise it by doing extra credit that is added to attendance (70 min. = 1 X or V).  You also can, until Feb. 21, 2009, raise it by completing bulletin board classes.  (On Feb. 21, Microsoft - MSN - is closing all its bulletin boards, including ours.)

WHAT IS AN "FF"?  An "FF" shows completion of 0% - 30% of assignments for that grading area.  It is twice as bad as an "F": an "A" and an "F" average to a "C," but an "FF" and an "A" average to a "D."

HOW IS IMPROVEMENT & PARTICIPATION GRADED (20% of course grade)?  Generally, it is the average of the other grades, especially the average of your attendance and your weekly papers grades, as these are the two grades that show how much and how hard you worked during the first 14 weeks of the 17-week term.   If you have participated particularly well or poorly - or improved especially well or not at all - the participation and improvement grade can go higher or lower than the average of the other grades.   Generally speaking, though, the participation and improvement grade is the same as or close to the average of the other grades.

HOW IS THE TERM PAPER/PROJECT GRADED? It starts with four grades: one for each of the grading standards in the term paper web page: content, details/resources, organization, and presentation.  Then these four grades are averaged to form the final letter grade that appears above. When the papers are graded, I make brief comments for my own records for my own self showing how I graded the paper.  If you want to see these comments, you are welcome to email me and ask for them: ask me to return your final paper with its grading comments on it.

HOW WERE THE WEEKLY PAPERS GRADED (40% of course grade)?  See below.
